Camp Prairie Schooner Aquatics Center

Camp Prairie Schooner provides a unique approach to water recreation with its newest Aquatic Center. The new Aquatic Center is artfully integrated into the natural setting of the Camp’s 176 wooded acres. Positioned high on the bluffs of the Little Blue River, the new Aquatics Center thoughtfully rejuvenates the site’s former swimming pool by bringing the site’s natural context into play - literally.
Faux limestone boulders are integrated into the edge of the pool wall with a gigantic climbing rock allowing swimmers to climb it from the water providing fun, courage-building experiences. Taking direction from the Girl Scouts themselves, Vireo and the design team collaborated to make their vision for the new pool become a reality. As the project progressed, Scouts toured the construction site and participated in interactive workshops learning from Vireo’s landscape architects about the site’s challenges, opportunities, planting design, and the importance of teamwork.
