3rd District Green Infrastructure

The Kansas City, MO Water Services Department (WSD) Smart Sewer program is actively developing green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) to reduce combined sewer overflows within city limits. Through partnerships with Veterans Administration, Kansas City Public Schools, and Kansas City Parks Department, and Avenue of Life, Vireo developed GSI at Linwood Green Park, VA Hospital, and East High School, and Avenue of Life’s Recycling Campus. The projects promote educational programs, green collar jobs training, and neighborhood involvement to provide cost-effective maintenance. Existing agricultural facilities at East High may be used to grow plants for maintenance. Vireo also screened the project for potential Envision certification.
