Vireo helped design and implement green infrastructure in the Marlborough neighborhood. Following the success of the Middle Blue River Basin Green Infrastructure Pilot, Vireo helped design green stormwater infrastructure (GSI) and regional detention serving over 300 acres of land. This innovative project demonstrates how the City’s Smart Sewer Program can leverage green infrastructure to reduce Combined Sewer Overflows, alleviate downstream flooding, and create park and landscape amenities.

Vireo assisted with design of two sites, including a regional extended detention wetland at 81st & Troost Avenue and a nearby neighborhood bioretention installation. Vireo prepared conceptual designs, assisted with site layout and grading, details, and construction specifications. Vireo also assisted in construction observation and secured a grant from the Conservation Fund to develop amenities around the site.
