Heartland 2050 Regional Plan
Johnson County, Kansas
Heartland 2050 is the Omaha/Council Bluffs regional vision for its people, places and resources. The plan incorporates sustainable development and a Collective Impact approach to help community and regional leaders create a roadmap to a shared future that leverages public investments, enhances economic growth, and promotes shared prosperity. Vireo’s team developed a sustainability approach with natural resource planning, park and recreation planning, and public engagement assistance. Vireo recommended critical forest, prairie, river and stream preservation areas, regional greenways and nature park preserves. Vireo then facilitated intensive stakeholder discussions to refine these elements, and developed performance indicators and implementation measures.
