Omaha National VA Cemetery
Omaha, Nebraska
The Omaha National VA Cemetery is the newest national cemetery in the Midwest to honor those who served our country. The rolling 235 acre site was acquired by the United States Department of Veterans Affairs in 2012 and construction of phase one is nearly complete.
The cemetery master plan responds to the natural features of the site employing sustainable design practices. The plan utilizes regional vernacular to help inform both the land plan and the architecture to create a warm ‘sense of place’.
The first phase of development will include construction of 10 years of burial capacity; supporting public, administration and maintenance facilities; and associated infrastructure.
As project lead, Vireo has kept the big picture in mind, considering how the cemetery can be environmentally conscious and sustainable to stand through time as a reflection of strength, service and honor.
