Prairie Band Potawatomi Watershed Assessment
Potawatomi Nation
Water is one of the Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation’s (PBPN) most important natural and cultural resources. Protecting aquatic resources and adjacent terrestrial resources has biological, cultural, and economic benefits because fish and wildlife are important to their way of life. Historic changes in land use and on-going agricultural practices have impacted these resources, resulting in streambank erosion, poor water quality, and habitat loss. Vireo is leading a team of ecologists, planners, and engineers who are working with the PBPN’s Division of Planning and Environmental Protection, in partnership with the US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), and the Bureau of Indian Affairs (BIA), to prepare watershed-based plans for Tribal lands.
