Topeka Pedestrian Master Plan

Vireo’s bike/ped planners and public involvement specialists worked with the team and community members to identify key goals, top issues, and necessary improvements for walkability in the neighborhoods in and around Topeka. With the goal creating safe and connected walkways between schools, parks, shopping districts, workplaces and other popular destinations, the team utilized Vireo’s mobile GIS tool, SiteCapture, to inventory pedestrian conditions in targeted locations. The effort resulted in nearly 2,100 data points and over 45 miles of potential sidewalk improvements. The project team used a mix of public meetings, media outreach, and online tools to engage and inform the citizenry and cultivate feedback.
